MSI StarCam 370i (ID 0c45:60c0) sn9c105r
Hello,
I have MSI StarCam 370i webcamera. USB ID 0c45:60c0, chip sn9c105r + MI0360. I am Kubuntu 6.10 user and build-in spca5xx (.57) recognizes it as a Shanga 350k, but there is no real picture from webcam - I can see only colored dotted area and on the top there is a narrow belt of dotted changing noise.
I used gspca 01.00.11 also, but the result was the same.

So I upgraded to Kubuntu 2.6.19-7-generic + sn9c102-1.34 (linux-projects.org), but it doesn't work either.
dmesg:
[ 769.486465] Linux video capture interface: v2.00
[ 944.637588] sn9c102: V4L2 driver for SN9C1xx PC Camera Controllers v1:1.34
[ 944.641906] usb 1-2: SN9C105 PC Camera Controller detected (vid/pid 0x0C45:0x60C0)
[ 944.720799] usb 1-2: No supported image sensor detected
[ 944.721102] usbcore: registered new interface driver sn9c102

but there is not created /dev/video0

If I add last gspca, after reboot:
Linux video capture interface: v2.00
[ 145.955534] /usr/src/gspca/gspca_core.c: USB SPCA5XX camera found. SONIX JPEG (sn9c1xx)
[ 145.955542] /usr/src/gspca/gspca_core.c: [spca5xx_probe:3936] Camera type JPEG
[ 145.956881] /usr/src/gspca/gspca_core.c: [spca5xx_getcapability:1177] maxw 640 maxh 480 minw 160 minh 120
[ 145.956964] usbcore: registered new interface driver gspca
[ 145.956969] /usr/src/gspca/gspca_core.c: gspca driver 01.00.11 registered
[ 145.991219] sn9c102: V4L2 driver for SN9C1xx PC Camera Controllers v1:1.34
[ 145.991293] usbcore: registered new interface driver sn9c102
[ 146.194996] usbcore: registered new interface driver snd-usb-audio

there is /dev/video0, but the "picture" is the same as from spca5xx driver.

There is written that my image sensor is not supported - could be supported by this project in the future?

http://img144.imageshack.us/my.php?image=starcam370idissectiongn3.jpg dissection [~1.1 MB]

Thank you for any recommendation.

Thank you for your reply. Is there a way how to do it earlier?
Could I do/test/... something?

No, sorry. The only way is to donate a similar device to me.

I've also got this cam. Honestly, I'm starting to hate cams on linux - even when you get the same model number as what another person reports success with, you can pretty much bet your boots that the sensor or the bridge chip has been 'silently' changed *sigh*.

Where abouts are you (country) - I suspect you're not in Australia, else I'd send this thing to you just so you can knock off another "won't work in linux" device :(

Paul.

I might be willing to donate one of these. Mine is actually a "StarCam Clip" but I understand it's the same camera in a different package -- i.e. same chips inside.

Obviously, it all depends on where you live! So can you PM me your details? Thanks.

Hey Luca,

Did you manage to get the donation? If so, how goes the development effort?

If not, I have one here which in theory I can donate. However, I'm assuming I wouldn't get it back, and buying another may result in another unsupported sensor/chipset pairing.

Still, it's useless to me without driver support. Would you be interested in root-level shell access to a Debian Etch workstation on a fast connection (4+ Mbps sync.) with the camera attached?

If not, and you didn't get one already, lemme know what to do and I'll post you this one. Maybe I could include some cash and you could post it back? You must have loads of webcams ;o}

0c45:60c0 is already supported by the latest version of the driver
